Thematic Seminar and Comenius 1 Contact Seminar
"From the PAPYRUS to the ITCs. Tools linking cultures”

Dear colleagues,
The ISTRA team and the Romanian Socrates Agency wishes to invite you to the

Thematic Seminar and Comenius 1 Contact Seminar
"From the PAPYRUS to the ITCs. Tools linking cultures”.

Background:

According to PISA reports, one of the main problems of European students these days is the deficiencies they present in comprehension / expression tasks. These deficiencies are present in oral as well as in written tasks. To promote better reading and writing habits, there is a “starting engine” for the developmet of personality and for the achievement of better knowledge of the peoples of Europe.
A person able to write and read correctly will have a better knowledge of his or her environment, not only of the nearest one.
We want to encurage and promote development of projects which consider that cross-subjects and European Cultural Heritage are key elements. All these projects will have a common platform, where libraries will be a meeting point and a dinamic axe for all the proposals of the educational community.
There might be projects that consider that reading and writing have an esthetic purpose, but there are others whose aims have been: multiculturality, gender mainstream, xenophobia, fairplay, artistic education and the support of creativity. The main objective is that reading and writing should become the base for a better education of European citizens. These citizens should be open-minded, more understanding, tolerant and creative.

Specific Aims

  • Encouraging and supporting secondary education level institutions to create European cooperation projects focused on reading and writing abilities
  • Exchanging and disseminating good practice examples as a way of achieving progress by promoting awareness and greater motivation among educational institutions and teachers;
  • Encouraging the dinamic capacities (team work, use of foreign languages, social skills)
  • Raising European dimenssion of education by transpasing frontiers and promoting respect and understanding of the ethnic cultural and linguistic diversity
  • Elaboration of new projects
